This website is dedicated to
You can listen to baby songs and toddler songs, as well as see the lyrics to baby songs and toddler songs that were all written by Marlene Rosen, founder of Wee Workout (an exercise program for young children). Many of the songs make for an excellent lullaby for baby, as well as young children.
You will find many beautiful baby songs and rhymes - Marlene writes very cute songs and music for babies, toddlers, and young children. Her book, "Songs to Sing and Play with your Little Ones" was inspired by her love of teaching young kids. She believes that we teach our young children something every minute of every day. Marlene's love for children and love of teaching them is reflected in each of the kids songs you will find in her inspirational book, "Songs to Sing and Play with your Little Ones". These songs make great circle time songs, as well as fingerplay songs (sometimes called finger play songs).
One day, the songs found in this unique book will be popular preschool songs and you can listen to baby songs that she has composed herself to hear some examples of the kinds of wonderful music for kids that she has composed over the years. There are baby songs for preschoolers, including special preschool songs about numbers. And, does anyone have a cuter baby bathtime song than Marlene's classic song, "Rub-A-Dub-Dub" ?!!!
The lyrics and music for children found in Marlene's book are classic and unforgettable - her songs are varied. Some are simply songs to sing, most are songs to play. Some are chants to play. All songs have either an explanation of how to play that song, or an interesting little blurb about how the song came to be written. Some songs are self-explanatory, as you will find in several of the "Songs to Sing" section for Toddlers and Preschoolers. They are just fun songs to sing. These songs, however, will teach something! These songs make great circle time songs, as well as fingerplay songs (sometimes called finger play songs).

Marlene is a teacher at heart. She believes that we teach our young children something every minute of every day. As a result, we need to be aware of that importance. Her goals were to help children feel good about themselves, how to be polite, and how to be a good and thoughtful friend. Her soft and gentle way of speaking to children and showing them respect at all times resulted in amazing awareness for the parents in her program. Marlene’s love for children and love of teaching them is reflected in each of the songs you will find in her book

This book is a wonderful tool for parents and/or grandparents, as well as teachers of preschool children. The county from which Marlene came, ordered four of her books.....one for each of their schools that teach parent/participation programs. Retired teachers have told Marlene that they surely wish they had this book when they were teaching. Present Wee Workout* parents are purchasing the book to use with their small children now. Past parents of Wee Workout have purchased this book in preparation for becoming grandparents (some of Marlene’s original students are now in their late twenties !). In short, "Songs to Sing and Play with your little one" is well loved !
It is Marlene’s sincere wish that everyone gets much joy and fun from her book.
*Wee Workout is explained in "About the Author".
Table of Contents for the Real Book (1)
This is the first of three pages of our actual Table of Contents for the book.
In each song book, the Table of Contents is preceded by a Dedication page, an Acknowledgment page, and Introduction page and the Welcome song that was (and still is) sung at the beginning of every class at Wee Workout since 1984!
Table of Contents for the Real Book (2)
This second page of our actual song book Table of Contents continues to show you additional song titles from the book. You may notice that the book is divided into various sections.
Section I has songs to sing and play primarily for babies..... although once the songs are learned you may find that your baby will want to play these songs long past his/her baby stage !
Next is Section II which is for Toddlers and Preschoolers. This section also has songs to sing and play which are more appropriate for that age group. A few of the songs have been repeated, as they are great for all ages.
Table of Contents for the Real Book (3)
This is the third and last Table of Contents page of our actual song book. Section III displays poems and/or chants to play, are without music, and are for different ages. You will easily be able to choose the one you will want to play with your baby or child.
Section IV is Marlene’s special song for everyone. The composing of it was inspired by a particularly lovely day.
Sample Song: "Precious Ways"
This very endearing lullaby has three more verses in the real song book Each verse reflects other parts of your baby's body and is one of Marlene's favorite baby songs
Sample Song: "Bubbles, Bubbles"
This bubble song helps teach children about the beauty of bubbles and all that we can do with them. This is a sweet and "catchy" melody. Children are drawn to this song and it will, undoubtedly, become a favorite of everyone’s.
Sample Song: "Rub-A-Dub-Dub"
"Rub-A-Dub-Dub" is a really fun and adorable bath time song. This song is also one of Marlene’s favorites. In fact, she would love to have a baby to bathe every day, just to be able to play this song with them ! This little song mentions all the common body parts as it is sung, and it truly adds to the delight of bath time for your baby. Some babies are uneasy in the bath water. Singing to a baby helps to relax them, thus making this daily activity most enjoyable and stress-free for all.
Sample Song: "Roly-Poly"
This fun little song game has four more verses in our real song book. We always have known (and now it is scientifically proven!) that interacting with our babies is so very vital to their proper growth and development A song like "Roly-Poly" gives parents the opportunity to help their baby and have great fun at the same time!
Sample Song: "Be Happy"
Over the years, Marlene has taught parents that when you have a grumpy child it is usually because the child is either a...hungry, b...tired, or c...both of the above. As a result, picking them up or taking them by the hand, telling them that, "We'll go get something to eat", or "We'll go get a nice bath", and then singing a little song as you lead them off, works wonders for you and the child! Remember a hug and a kiss !!!
Sample Song: "Circles"
Shapes are wonderful for children to gain knowledge and observe. Circles are always a favorite. This song helps point out different colors and sizes, as well as where circles can be found. Marlene's circle song is a LOT of fun !
Sample Song: "It's Time To Put Our Toys Away"
For most children, putting toys away is an unpleasant chore. Marlene wrote this song to help make that chore fun..... And fun, indeed, it does become when a delightful song can be sung at the same time. You may be pleasantly surprised !
Sample Song: "Jack-In-The-Box"
Short though it may be, this is a really adorable song and it always delights the children ! You will have fun playing it, too !
Sample Song: "Mikie's Flower Song"
Children are thrilled to act out this song, as it gives them the opportunity to do the things they love most to do... use their imagination, play in the dirt, and help garden !
Sample Song: "Ten Little Fingers"
Fingers always fascinate children. Being able to do all different kinds of things with them is special fun. This particular song gives all children the opportunity and is a wonderful fingerplay song.
Sample Song: "Yes, I Can"
"Yes, I Can" is one of several songs that Marlene has written to help children boost their self-image. As you view each of the songs in her book, you will notice that just about every song has something to teach. It could be about colors, or directions, or body parts, or numbers, or how to be gentle, or even making us aware of beautiful things. There is always something to learn.
Sample Song: "I Want"
What a delightful song ! And what fond memories it brings back to Marlene. She will always remember sitting at circle time, singing this song and all the little ones shouting, "PLEASE" at the appropriate times ! The end of this song completes the teaching of good manners !
CD Information
Each book comes complete with this 104 minute CD. There is a CD pocket attached to the book and also holds a list of each song as it appears on the CD. This list also gives you the track number of each song as it corresponds with each song in the book.
The songs are sung by Marlene, (who is an amateur singer !) without any background music. The purpose of this CD is to help those who are unable to read music and still want to know how each song sounds.
About the Author (1)
Marlene has loved babies and small children for as far back as she can remember. As a matter of fact, according to her mother, "Babies captivated Marlene’s love and attention ‘way back when she, herself, was a tiny tike and barely walking. She learned at a very early age how to nurture little ones and speak softly to them".
The summer that Marlene was 10 years old, she had complete care of two young children from early in the morning until after bedtime at night. Their mother had been hospitalized and their father was working long hours for the war effort..... this was during WWII. Each day throughout that summer Marlene was responsible for the children’s three meals, snacks, diapering, napping, bathing, walking, playing, and storytelling before she put them to sleep each night. Taking care of a 2½ year old and a 10 month old was quite a tremendous job for one 10 year old little girl.
About the Author (2)
As a teenager, Marlene did date. Quite a bit. However, her first choice was always to baby-sit. The only person who had the privilege, and permission, of babysitting with her was the young man Marlene was to marry eventually.
After graduating high school, Marlene had one year of pre-nursing (pediatric nursing was her goal, of course !) It was then decided that she and her fiancé would marry before he had to go into the Army to fulfill his service responsibility. Marlene was then 18 years old. Their first baby was born one year later, followed by four more by the time she was 25 years old.
Marlene, now a grandmother of 6 grown grandchildren, still treasures the years that her five were babies and small children. When her youngest, and only daughter, was around 13, Marlene once heard her tell her brothers, "Y’know you guys.....Mom is never going to forgive us for growing up" !!!
About the Author (3)
Once all of Marlene’s children were in school, she taught preschool for seven years, was a Cub Scout leader for 10 years, and helped in the public schools with children with emotional disturbances. She also helped her husband in his pharmacy for some 17 years.
In 1984, Marlene opened a learning center called "Wee Workout" (named by her husband). It was a parent and child participation program for children from age 2 months through kindergarten. The center gave children the opportunity to develop motor coordination, balancing skills, and social skills. The parents were given the opportunity to do something special with their baby and/or child, and at the same time were given the opportunity to sharpen their parenting skills. Marlene was always there to offer advice on how to make their lives with their children easier and more fun.
About the Author (4)
For all of the years that Marlene owned Wee Workout, the parents had always urged her to put her little songs into a book. She was somewhat reluctant, and surely was lacking the time for such a feat, so it kept being put off. After twenty years, Marlene retired and her much beloved Wee Workout was sold to one of the parents whose child was a student of hers. Marlene and her husband moved from California to a retirement community in Oregon. Now was the time to pursue creating that book.
Marlene, although now retired, still offers parents help with problems they may be having with their young child. She invites you to contact her at any time. She can be reached at:

About the Author (5)
Marlene is very happy and enjoys doing all that she does where she now lives. However, she very much misses playing with all the little children that were such an important part of her life for so many years.
Marlene now does a lot of volunteer work in her new community. Once a week she goes out to "Dogs for the Deaf" to help give the dogs in training extra TLC. During the school year she helps children read with the Smart Read program. She and her therapy dog visit nursing homes during the week which gives people a LOT of pleasure.
About the Author (6)
It may be interesting to note that the same soft spoken and gentle techniques Marlene used to help children grow are the same techniques Marlene used to train her therapy dog. Together they are starting a "Reading to Dogs" program where they now live. This program is for children having difficulties in reading. You may want to look up this program on the internet at:

And for those who are curious.....Marlene and her husband are well and happy and just celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in August of 2007.
